“Viang Chiangmai Wall” is a term used to refer to the inner city wall of Chiang Mai. It was built by digging a “moat” in a square shape, approximately 1.63 kilometers long on each side. The soil obtained from the excavation of the moat was filled up to form the wall of the city along with the establishment of the Lanna kingdom. The area within this square has become a charming old Chiang Mai city. It attracts both Thais and foreigners from around the world to travel uninterruptedly. Therefore, when we have the opportunity to design a hotel that is located on the area, considered to have a history of more than 700years, we do not neglect to bring the uniqueness of Chiang Mai City Wall to convey in this architecture.Nine Hotel Chiangmai Project has main customers who are foreign tourists who want to experience Thai style. Architecture and decoration works are therefore designed to have a blend of Thai traditions, the locality of Chiang Mai, and contemporary. The challenge for this project is to renovate an existing4-storey building located in a conservation area. Therefore, it is important to choose the materials that will be used in the building. Moreover, the building is over 30 years old and has a very small original room size. It is a challenge to design a 3-star++ hotel, while the rooms are much smaller than our competitors.Another is the location of the hotel adjacent to the kindergarten-elementary school where activities are held from morning until evening. Loud noise is the first hotel issue that we have to deal with. Design techniques and material selection are very important in this project
